the cosmetics game is brutal. My counter in the mall has been fighting to reach the million dollars in sales benchmark for years. We missed it last year by $50 thousand.
What makes it so tricky is our business is driven by clientelling our customers, NOT clerking. Any chuckle head can run a register. The real value is being able to give great counseling, expert instruction and genuine concern for each individual. It also means hundreds of phone calls....hundreds and hundreds of phone calls.
We each have our "book" of clients and our performance reviews measure not just our revenue goals but the repeat business from loyal customers.
This whole last year was a genuine challenge to build the business.
A power seller left us and went to another counter. That was scary since she has nurtured a book for 8 years. Other team members had personal tragedies and issues.
But in spite of the crazy....we did it. It was down to the wire....and there was only a cushion of a few thousand dollars but . It happened. And I am so proud to have been a part of that.
I learned a valuable concept this year from Guy, my super life coach and business guru. It is called "permission marketing". When you earn the trust and respect of your customers...they will bring you their friends and let you help them in so many other ways. They let you give extra counsel and advice to address their issues. You are allowed to give more and more of yourself and that is the part that is the most fun and rewarding.
It was such an honor to give service to my clients and their families.
Now we get a handshake...some beautiful flowers....a "thank you" dinner and an admonishment to repeat the feat again and again from now until infinity.....away we go.
